Colorado teens face higher-than-average rates of anxiety and depression compared to national averages. The 2021 Colorado Health Access Survey showed that about 20% of high school students experienced depression, with many reporting symptoms of anxiety.
Colorado has one of the highest teen suicide rates in the U.S. In 2020, suicide was the leading cause of death for Colorado youth ages 10-24.
Addressing teen mental health in Colorado continues to be a major priority for both state officials and mental health advocates.
